D-BLAZE® FRTW

D-Blaze is an interior Type A (High-Temperature) fire-retardant treated wood. "Interior" means inside the building envelope — it must be protected in its final installed location, but it can be used in assemblies like roof sheathing or exterior wall sheathing that sit behind a roof covering, water-resistive barrier, and siding. It can be exposed and get wet during the construction cycle; it simply needs to dry back out before the assembly is closed up, and should not be permanently exposed to wetting or high humidity. For applications that stay permanently exposed to the weather, an exterior fire retardant or Wolman® E MCA is the appropriate choice.

Yes. D-Blaze is pressure-impregnated so the treatment pushes into the wood cells. It can be exposed during the construction cycle and get wet — you just have to let it dry back out before you close up the assembly. What it can't do is sit permanently exposed to wetting or high humidity in its final installed position. Because it's typically installed vertically (fast runoff) or under a sloped roof covering, normal construction exposure is expected. Follow the manufacturer's handling instructions and keep it dry in transit and storage.

Each piece carries the building-code-required label. D-Blaze is currently marked with the ICC-ES (International Code Council Evaluation Service) mark. The label identifies the manufacturer, manufacturing location, treatment chemistry, and the other information required by the building code — the required labeling elements are listed in IBC Section 2303.2.5. Whatever certifying agency's mark appears, the code-required information is what tells you the material meets specification.

D-Blaze has been tested by independent laboratories under ASTM D 5516 and ASTM D 5664 to develop strength reduction factors for various use conditions, including elevated roof temperatures. Apply the published adjustment factors in your design — for example, lumber bending (Fb) ranges from 0.972 at service temps under 100°F down to 0.740 in Zone 1A roof framing. Yes. D-Blaze is workable with common woodworking tools. It's low-corrosivity and non-blooming. Follow the handling and use guidelines in the documents section for fastener and connector recommendations.

D-Blaze complies with IBC 2006–2018 and IRC 2006–2018, is classified UL Class A (FR-S), holds ICC-ES ESR-2645 and GREENGUARD Gold certification, and is AWPA standardized (P50, U1, UCFA) as Interior Type A (HT). Additional listings include CAN/ULC S102, NFPA 255, NYC MEA, and CSFM. In the field, the product carries the building-code-required label — currently the ICC-ES mark. D-Blaze contains no VOCs or formaldehyde and is GREENGUARD Gold certified, which addresses low chemical emissions for indoor environments including schools and healthcare settings.
